Dead & Buried 26.4.2013

One totally great night from start to finish. Of all the clubs I’ve DJed at before, D&B has always been my favorite. I think it has to do with the artistic license I’m given, plus I’ve always considered it to be the last refuge for more hardcore goth music in London. I always feel like I have to earn my night whilst playing, and although I sometimes felt like I’ve missed or not quite held the audience, Friday was not to be the case.

Playing in between Dick Venom & The Terrortones and after Partly Faithful, my style slotted very well inbetween very nicely, and with an eager, yet much younger crowd than I’m used to at D&B, the whole night just flowed perfectly. In fact, this was the first time in my DJ career that I had people applauding my songs throughout my set!!

It was great catching up with old friends, and making some new ones to boot! Our only regret was that we had to leave at 2.30am due to the trains, and that a new venue is currently being searched for D&B once again.

So my final thanks to Cavey Nik, both the great bands, and to the eager audience for making my weekend.

Mmmm. Well, I suppose what with Whitby, the St.Albans goth stuff at the museum and the current round of the lurgy, we did reasonably well. But hell, not even the great weather could entice our alternative people out for a refreshing pint, so I guess in terms of swings and roundabouts, I think we were stuck at the bottom of the slide!! Still, myself and Hellfyre's DJ Gothydude kept plugging away at the eclectic, and what few people that were kind enough to support the night all had a very nice time thank you very much!!

Regardless, I'll be back to one skull again in time for weeks 'Cure Galore' night, so I hope to see a few more of the 61 people that have 'liked' the online page!

Dark Night In Luton 4.4.2013

I must admit to starting off the night with absolutely no expectations at all. Following on from last weeks packed night, there was only one way to go, and with quite a few people awol, I wasn't really looking forward to the night. Thankfully I was proved very wrong, and in fact, had myself a brilliant night with some great friends.

Yes, support was very low, but that didn't stop the inspiration or the songs flowing, and all I can say is that those that missed out, missed out big time. I usually tend to stop playing around 11.30, but time evaded me and beforeI knew it, it was after 12am!!

Anyway, we're back on Thursday 25th April, with special guest DJ Gothydude from Bedfords Hellfyre club. Those not venturing off to Whitby are most welcome to join us.

Dark Night in Luton - The Alternative 80s 28.3.13

A very big thanks to all that ventured out to last nights show. A tad slow start, but once the it kicked in, boy was it busy. In fact the night ended up like a mini 'Switch' reunion! (*must be over 40 to fully appreciate the comment!) Thanks also for the requests - makes my job a lot easier, even if I ended up playing for longer than usual, no that I'm complaining. Thoroughly enjoyed the night, even if I did end up covered in wine!

Anyway, I'll be back for the first on Aprils nights literally next week, with a slight bias towards John Lydon's various adventures, plus new tracks from the recently released Depeche Mode, IAMX and the Black Rebel Motorcycle Club's albums. Hope to see you there.

Do you know, the last time I DJed at The Edge was back in late 2005? 

Luckily, things have changed somewhat, and certainly for the better. I must admit I was surprised when GingerJohn asked me to play, but I'm all for the fun and experience, and as I'm constantly asked "when's the next Coven" decided that this was the best opportunity any 'willing sinner' is gonna get!! Plus it was a great chance to play some of my fav alternative tunes 'for the kids' whom all seemed to enjoy the music.

So thanks very much for those few that did brave the weather and add their support to the night. The night picked up very quickly, and GJ and I seem to collaborate very well together as if we'd been DJing as a team forever! Hopefully, we'll be looking into performing another night in the next few months, so make sure you pay attention!!

Dark Night In Luton's 'Violator' Night

Following quite a few 'Who's Depeche Mode?' questions which still astound me, my doubts regarding running the night were soon dismissed, with a great night unfolding throughout the 3 1/2 hours of playing again. The Luton alternative scene may not be the biggest it's been over the years, but luckily, just very loyal.

So, after the disappointing club guest slot in London recently, it was great to get full control over the decks and content of the music again. I rarely play EBM/Industrial in pubs, but with the themed night as such, I really enjoyed the mix throughout the night. Also, the same with my past pub nights, requests rarely happen, and with the night now going bi-monthly, it looks like I have my work cut out for me from now on!!
