Dark Psych In Luton 30.10.2014

I think the best way to approach this weeks psych/Halloween night is to basically inform you of what you missed out on. Whilst we didn’t manage to get the projector we were hoping for, we did have our mini-lightshow in full force, occasionally shutting down lights throughout the sets for added effect. For those of you that also read the post of me playing the most ‘beautiful song of 2014’, yes it was played, and yes, it was a lovely moment in time.

Regardless, the music at ‘Dark Psych’ just seems to get better at every event, so a big thanks to DJ Brian O’Blivion for the insight, influence and input into the night, and to our few witnesses that know a good thing when they hear it!

Bit of a late start due to somebody insisting that he put on 10 songs on the jukebox just as I'm about to start the night! Ironically, most of what he selected, I could of played and saved him £3!

8.30pm we finally got underway with a comfortable and sociable crowd this time, although I wasn't expecting many due to the long month taking its monetary toll and busy weekend with most clubs jumping on the 'Halloween' bandwagon.

Dark Night In Luton 16.10.2014

As some of you know, I've been forced upon a (pointless) DWP course (which is basically another excuse for the Tory government to doctor their unemployment figures to make out things are better than they actually are!) So, after the past few days of having to be upright and act in a sociable manner most of the day, I can't say I was really in the mood for going out again, and after the last two Dark Night events being so busy, I pretty much guessed that I wouldn't have much of an audience this week, so I strategically planned to play tribute to two good friends - Billy & Marina, both whom have had recent birthdays, and that I knew were definitely going to be down for the night, so when you read the playlist below, you'll understand why! If anything, I preferred the randomness and quirkiness of the set, and as nobody else complained, I guess it went down well! And as it happens, in the end, we had a good crowd out, albeit, only a few from the group site, but that's the norm I guess!

Modern Dance @ G2 10.10.2014

A massive thank you to all that supported my ‘Modern Dance’ event at The George 2nd. I can only say that if you were on the event list for coming down and didn’t make it, you really missed out on a great evening.

So, the original plan was to play music from 1981-82 only, and as most of you know, I’m pretty unforgiving when it comes to sticking to my own rules, especially not playing the same band twice, but that just wasn’t going to happen tonight! A busy start to the night ensured that as soon as the Dub Pistols show kicked out at 11pm across the road, it was simply a case of keeping everyone on the dance floor, although scrolling back a year or two musically (and then some) pretty much ensured that!

I even managed to play quite a few of my all time favourites, and by the amount of positive comments I received throughout the night, it was great to see so many others enjoying and reliving their musical past, regardless that there still was loads of songs I simply didn’t get a chance to play. So, 6 hours and 100 songs later, we finally closed the night. So thanks again to everyone that supported – you made my night!

Bearing in mind that I've another 'one-off' night planned for the preceding evening, I was very impressed with the amount of people that supported the night. This, in turn, raised my levels of excitement for the night, and thanks to you that supported, I had an absolute blast all night.
Another great mix of genres from myself and Chris, with the playing of new Aeon Sable and New Days Delay, although I think The Cure and Swervedriver were my fav parts of the night. So thanks to all that ventured out

A great start to October, with support from far and wide as well as passing trade! I was so close to cancelling the night due to being struck down with one bastard of a cold since Monday, but was so glad I made the effort to drag myself out. So thanks to all those supported and glad you all enjoyed the music. There was still loads of music I didn't get to play, but then there's always next week, so hope to see you then.
