Friday Night Fever! - 21.12.2018

"Music from the dreadful days of disco, dinosaurs of rock, glitter of glam, nuance of new-wave and the perniciousness of punk!!" - and with the perfect target audience and the high spirits of the festive season, I couldn't of asked for a better finish to 2018. A full pub from the start, non-stop dancing, and the beer flowed and flowed!!

So that's it for me now, and I can put this year to bed with another 14 nights (listed below) under my belt. Looking back at the year, seems that the most popular were the themed nights, with the 'Friday Alternative' nights falling victim to the ghost town element of the state of entertainment for the town centre these days. Still, we are the only alternative night still running, so hopefully 2019 will prove worthy of my continued efforts, but I guess time will tell.

Well, there it is. Another birthday done and dusted, and definitely the last I''ll be celebrating in public. I've had many a thought in my head over the last few days with regard to writing about the night, but I guess the best way to portray it is that friends are a strange and unpredictable breed and from my vast and unfortunate experience throughout my life, learnt that people will always let you down, especially when you need them the most!

So negativity aside, I fully appreciated all of those that did take the time to help me celebrate this personal and important milestone, and to share in my favourite songs from my past. I honestly can't remember the last time I danced (or drank) so much!

A very enjoyable night, with a good turn out of friends to mark the last official alternative night George2 night this year.  The pub itself, although empty upon starting the night, ticked over quite nicely throughout the evening, even with the horrendous weather outside. Definite highlights were  playing OMD & the new Gary Numan single, but it's always appreciated to receive compliments for my musical choices, and always (well, occasionally) happy to play requests but God help anyone that makes any during my next event!!

Indeed, I've two months left to play in December, both themed, as well as the events in Jan and February, so in theory, the alternative selection will hit back probably in March, so keep watching the skies for announcements/invitations!

Methods Of Dance 12.10.2018

So that's Octobers night executed, and such fun to boot! A really good turn out for the majority of the night, with a birthday gathering, plus a leaving do of sorts, which all made for a great night.

As you can see from the final playlist, I didn't really get a chance to play that much of an alternative selection in the end, and some of the looks I was getting for playing various cheesier songs were priceless, but the reality being the ironic twist of playing such bands like SGC really kill the flow, but requests are requests and you can't argue with a busy dancefloor! I swear next month will be back to the normal great mix of all things weird, plus it'll be the last official 'alternative' night I'll be doing in 2018 so best make the most of it as who knows what 2019 will have in store!

Regardless, many thanks for everyone that showed up in support, and to the help I received throughout the month helping with promotion. Novembers event is a tad earlier than usual, hosting on the 9th, so make sure you check your invite page carefully!

SECONDS - 14.9.2018

Definitely an interesting night musically on reflection. Undoubtedly, DJ Uncle Filthy stole the show with his choice industrial selections throughout, although the stubborn in me was always going to insist on sticking to the original theme of music based around John Frankenheimers film "SECONDS". A tad disconcerting to be unable to find anyone else that has actually watched the film though, so I do recommend you search it out if you get the chance!

So, with timings, seems that Ralph ended up with all the requests, but this meant I could get away with playing the new Soft Cell and Purple Heart Parade songs which sounded great btw as well as a few more tracks from the obscure! I also received some good feedback for the selection from 1966, although at this stage of the night, I was hoping to engage what few actual pub goers that were still around. Regardless, the night was well attended, and again we chose not to send out personal invites, so it just goes to show it doesn't really make much difference, although next months "Methods Of Dance" event we'll be back to normal, with invites already send out, so guess we'll see, and as usual, any help to spread the word is always appreciated.

So thanks to all that supported the night, the bar staff for putting up with the music, and to DJ Ralph Uncle Filthy for his great sets.

Well now there was a surprising night. In fact, I can't remember the last time I had such a busy August night! As some of you knew, this was advertised as a chilled night as usually July/August is dead time, especially with the town centre being such a non-entity these days. So chilled in fact, that no invites were even sent out, as I figured that those which seek a good night out down the pub would attend anyway what with the event being advertised and shared well, so you can imagine my surprise when we generated more people than usual!

Anyway, originally this event/concept and set was written for another pub in 2017, but after much effort on my part to write/tweak the set to their particular clientele, design a new poster etc, etc, the pub ignored my messages for a couple of months, so I thought 'fuck 'em' - lets just rewrite it and host the night where I'm at least a little more appreciated!

So, many thanks to those that supported the night, and helped share the event on Facebook. I know I certainly enjoyed myself and am looking forward to the September event even more. Remember, always be "Too weird to live, and too rare to die!"

Friday The 13th - 16 Years Of A Dark Luton 13.7.2018

After the big disappointment of last months Rosegarden event, I decided not to let this anniversary phase me and just to let the night flow and see what happens. We set sail to a few various tracks from The Matrix soundtrack, excuse being my soundcheck, taking full advantage of the G2 not really having any music on beforehand and let nature take its course officially starting just before 9pm.

The night in question was originally based upon my time hosting past club night 'The Coven' with the hoping of enticing old willing sinners back into the world, but in reality, it's been nearly 8 years since the demise of the club and the few I still know are very few and far between when it comes to supporting such events these days, plus we're also well into the quieter time of the year. so I can appreciate that people move on and life can get in the way, so as the night progressed, any songs originally featured that I used to play were more of a coincidence than purpose, and I plumped for how my mood was at the time.

Anyway, the night progressed very nicely with the passing trade, with even dancing as early as 9.30pm although with the weather being so good, most were not surprisingly in the beer garden or out the front with a good circle of friends to supporting me inside. A grand finale to finish with a flurry of dancing and some stomping music to boot! So thanks very much to those that supported the night and to the pleasant feedback I received.

I'll be back a bit earlier in August, hosting a chilled out night called "Fear & Loathing" so look out for the event page and I hope to see you then.
