The 70s vs 80s Xmas Special - 24th December 2016

"Twas the night before Christmas, when all through the house, not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse.." but luckily The George IInd was the place to be! Not quite as busy as expected, but we had our moments with some great requests. Certainly was good to see people getting into the xmas spirit, (and the xmas beers and ciders!!)

Dance of Death 2.12.2016

Apart from the sound and electrical problems first encountered, added with the usual trepidation of running a night made worse by the very nature of this particular night, I must say this was actually a fun night. Considering the last minute slot, The Cure gigs and other various local events, definitely including the main effort of trying to get people out for ones birthday in December, all's well that ended well. A quiet start as usual, but things soon picked up. Luckily the requests were down to a minimum, which meant I could basically leave the music on auto, and, after a few tequilas, dance the night away with friends!

So thank you all that attended my night, put up with the theme of solely dedicated favourite songs, and those that gave me birthday cards, although that actual dubious ageing process is still pending and the memory loss of the last part of the night I'm sure is more down to alcohol consumption than dementia!

I Wake Up Screaming 25.11.2016

Considering how dead the town and the pub was when I first arrived, the night soon got underway, and Ralph & I soon established it was gonna be a fun night. Luckily numbers wise with the punk gig across the road promptly finishing around 10.30, we soon had decent numbers. But once again, due to the change in schedule of the night across the road, I ended up scrapping most of what I was originally going to play, and with having Ralph guest once more, this meant I could spend quality time socialising, and most importantly, drinking!

As most people now know, I've dropped the 'Dark Night' title after 4 years. But don't worry, as my DJ nights will still flourish, but just under different titles, so thanks to all that have contributed, DJed and supported the nights since 2012. I'm already planning nights for 2017, and currently have the 'David Bowie Birthday Bash' on the 7th, and now 'The Spiral Scratch' night continuing the celebration of 40 years of punk on 27th of January, so we hope to see you at The George 2nd as always.

The David Bowie Birthday Bash @ G2 (Saturday 7th January 2017)

With Sunday 8th January now being the official "International Bowie Day" Dark Night DJ Russ & The George 2nd celebrate the return of the thin white duke with David Bowies 70th birthday hosting another (undoubtedly) packed night with tracks from his back extensive catalogue of 26 albums from Space Oddity to Blackstar, (and then some!!)

Cruel Summer @ G2 27.8.2016

Perhaps the night really should of been entitled "The Good, The Bad, and the downright Ugly" as far as the music was concerned! But still, plenty of cheese, and I couldn't think of a better and more enjoyable way to bow out of my DJ duties for the next few months. I sang myself hoarse, drunk way too much, and had the best night in ages.

So many thanks to those that supported the night, especially those that travelled, and although I've nothing booked now until January 2017s Bowie night, I'm sure you'll see me again soon for another possible trip back to the 80s, or maybe 70s!!
