X-The Unknown 11.5.2018

Well if the hangover was anything to go by, and my need for a take-away curry on Saturday night, I assume that Fridays alternative night was a good night! With my current enthusiasm directed to the end of the month 80s night, Junes main event and the weather turning that bit colder (although it was still damn hot in the pub!) I was feeling a tad reluctant about the night.

But the show must go on, and with the spirited few, now known as the 'last supper gang', the once empty pub slowly grew into a decent crowd, although not an alternative one I hasten to add, and after a few pints, and with the usual witty/sarcastic banter between Ralph and I, the night grew into a good laugh, with obviously a great selection of themed tracks to while away the hours!

So many thanks to those that showed their support. and to DJ Ralph, I'll be back at the end of May for a special bank holiday rare Saturday night appearance, playing host to my 'Baggy Trousers 80s night'  and expect to be bombarded with promos for the next official alternative frenzy, aka 'Rosegarden Funeral Of Sores' on the 15th June!

Disturbia 20.4.2018

While it was a welcome relief to finally see the sun, it just doesn’t seem to bode well when it comes to pub nights these days. Personally, I couldn’t wait to get out and have a few beers, but I guess that’s sadly just not the case for all! Still, I got to play some weird and wonderful tunes rarely heard in public, including the new Spear Of Destiny and Farida tracks, whilst the faithful few ventured out to ensure the night was enjoyable enough to make it worthwhile.

So, being knackered from work, poor ole Uncle Filthy & I switched sets so he could retire to bedlam earlier than usual, although I suspect when time came for Ralph to finish, we were all more in the mood to continue all night! Anyway, Ralph finished just before 1am, and while I’m sure there was no coincidence, the pub suddenly became its busiest and before we knew it, the night was over!

So, thanks for those that did suffer the warm weather and support our night, DJ Ralph for his musical input, and the G2 staff for putting up with us again! We’re back early than usual in May, but then I’ve two nights for you to enjoy (or ignore) so keep checking your invite boxes, and please don’t forget to help me out by inviting your friends too!

Repulsion 16.3.2018

After the surprisingly busy January & Feb nights, it was only a matter of time before we encountered a slower night. It was suggested that many people were just saving themselves for Paddys day, but somehow, I don't think that really applies here! Regardless, the night was still steady throughout, plus I'm very pleased to see some new blood starting to support the night, especially when advertising playing host to the 40th anniversary of particular favourite new wave albums of mine, otherwise musically, I thought it was a great mix of genres, and also pleased to always see a few dancing bods.

So many thanks to those that supported, especially considering how cold it was getting. I'll be back later in April, with the pleasure of DJ Uncle Filthy returning to the decks, so look out for your invite and don't forget to tell your mates!!

What Time Is Love? 16.2.2018

Not sure why, but the build up for this event really buzzed, regardless of the Facebook event page being its usual lame self! But even I couldn't anticipate such a great and busy night, especially with the local beer festival in session, and various gigs around the county falling on the same night. Usually London would be calling me too, especially with The Damned and The Myrrors both playing the same time in different locations, but I guess I had my own agenda!

Anyway, I thought it was about time Luton had a great indie night, and with Valentines days just past, plus a mates birthday to celebrate, this seemed like the most appropriate time to perform such a night. Quite a few requests, with most being inappropriate to the nights choice, and even with my current 34000+ available songs, even I couldn't find the requested "Summer Of 69" by Bon Jovi!!!

So, 2 for 2 thus far, with the only downside of being as victim of ones own success having the pub closing early due to the high numbers, and that's definitely a new one on me! And again anyone on the interested list that didn't make it, I'm afraid you missed out out on hell of a night!

Regardless, many thanks to all that supported the night and made it so much fun to play and the G2 staff whom battled through the thirsty hordes all night! Next month, I return to my usual style of mixes from the alternative genres always with some musical surprises up my sleeve! See you on the 16th!

January Embers - 19.1.2018

OK, so let's set the mood. A few hours previously, I come down with the start of a migraine, but OD on Anadin to prevent further damage, but still make it down to the pub in good time! DJ Uncle Filthy arrives in an even filthier mood thanks to the rigours of every day work, and we've still 5 hours of entertaining ahead of us! And to top it all, this week is the advertised 'worst week of the year' yet our optimism is strangely good!

After a frantic search, our only prop for the night, the 'red balloon' (and with great thanks to Maureen for picking this up and delivering it to the pub) is found after 3 searches and a phone call and having faced much worse odds in the past, we plod on in lively fashion, adhering loosely to theme from the 'IT' movie soundtrack, of which I only manage to play two songs from the new remake in the end! But also paves the way for our very eclectic set, and gives me a chance to play lots of nice goodies and the odd request. Although as eclectic as we like to play on our alternative night, I do have to draw the line with requests for Supertramp and Genesis!

Anyway, the night was busy enough, with a good crowd, but come the end of my fourth set (circa 12.30am) following my electronic/new wave trio of songs, Ralph kicks off,  blasting out basically a raucous club set, setting the nights precedent. The last two hours are a blur tbh, but I've got to say this was the best way to kick off our 2018, so a big thanks for everyone that did show up and lend us their ears for the night. I hope you enjoyed it as much as Ralph & I did.

Usual thanks to the staff at the G2 for their hard work throughout the night, and to my stand in DJ and beloved Sharon for filling in when I was indisposed! I'll be back In February for a themed Valentines/Indie/friends birthday night, and will be back with a full-on show, so anybody that's just 'interested' - change your status to going and don't miss out again! ;)

Scary Monsters 80x Xmas Night & Year review - 22.12.2017

So that’s 2017 done and dusted. 15 nights, which included four specific themed nights, one tribute night (my personal favourite from all year) two birthday parties and two 80s nights. This includes 111 requests in total with “The Normal - Warm Leatherette” being the most played song throughout the year, so make of that what you will!

I’m sure that there would have been a few more nights to add to that list if it wasn't for some kind soul vindictively trying to fuck me over to the DWP, not only depriving me of the pleasure of doing what I enjoy most, but also depriving everyone else's enjoyment too, but that’s people for you, and I guess I'll continue into 2018 with my trust sadly lacking that little bit more!

Regardless, DJ wise, I've had a very enjoyable year, making new friends, and experiencing some of the best music I can lay my hands on, introducing some brilliant new acts into my nights, as well as the more alternative classics.
Top bands played include:-
The Clash
Joy Division
Killing Joke
Siouxsie & The Banshees
The Jam
Blondie
Adam & The Ants
Bauhaus
The Buzzcocks
whilst not including David Bowie or Rammstein as that's all I played during their prospective themed nights!

As for the 80s night in question, not quite as busy as expected, but needless to say, a great and fun way to end my year, with the fun crowd out, and some new support to boot! As per usual, my thanks to all those that have supported me throughout 2017, with special thanks to our occasional guest DJ Uncle Filthy, and The George IInd staff for putting up with the weird and wonderful nights I've made them endure throughout the months. We're very lucky to still have such a venue to run these nights, so please continue to support when you can to ensure we continue well into 2018!

A Dream of Dark And Troubling Things - 15.12.2017

So, that's the 49th nail in the coffin securely hammered home, with the hope that if and when the 50th arrives, I'll be in another country far far away!! Regardless, the time is now, and birthday & Xmas stuff needs doing, so what better excuse do you need for a night down the pub! And with special occasions, I fancied making a bit more of an effort, even with being knackered from the NMA concert the previous night, and pulled out one of my old Coven lights and smoke machine for a bit more atmos. Only problem at the time was, in my haste, I'd forgotten my allen keys for the stand for the light, so the first thanks goes to "Jenni the techie" to save the day for the lend.

Anyway, it wasn't long before the night was underway, with dancing pretty much kicking off immediately, regardless that most of my friendly support had decided to take root sitting on the dancefloor! (Remind me to move the chairs and tables for next weeks adventures!) So with balloons blown up, away we went, and although the majority of 'interested' from the Facebook event page not showing up, luckily the pub had a great and friendly crowd, all happy with my pre-selected music for the night, making the dancefloor busy all night and adding to my excitement for next Fridays Xmas 80s bash!

There are definitely some gaps in my memory from the night, with even re-reading the set-list not jogging any memories, but I do remember being up dancing quite often, and remembering to take all my equipment home come finish, even if some of it sat outside the house all night until discovered the next afternoon!!

So thank you to all that showed up and wished me a happy birthday in person, the cards and the drinks that I was lucky to receive, and to Barbara for the lift home with all the gear. See you next week to do it all again!
