Dark Night In Luton

So a big thanks to all that supported the night, and for those that wished me a happy birthday.

I must admit it was a purely self-indulgent night, as the few of you that made requests found out, but the idea was for a purely 'darker, chilled-out' music selection, with a few obvious exceptions!  Still, you'll be pleased to know that I have been invited back to play again, so keep watching the skies in 2013, for a few more local pub orientated goth nights (work pending!!!)

"Dark Night In Luton"

Last December was the first time in 10 years that I'd celebrated my birthday NOT DJing, so this time, I'm running a purely self indulgent night playing some of my favourite *chilled-out gothic tunes throughout the night at my local pub!!

Expect to hear great tunes from Merciful Nuns, Adoration, Faith & The Muse, Suspiria, Global Citizen & Clan Of Xymox.....etc etc...

Kicking off from 8pm. Hope to see you there.

*And yes, its chilled out as I know some of you have to get up for work the next day!!

How to turn 30 minutes into 30 seconds.

Yep, my first DJ set in over 9 months, and a surprise 40th birthday party for Bedfords 'Hellfyre' host - Chris Temple.

I had to admit that I was incredibly nervous, and slightly apprehensive of the equipment, but as per usual, after the first two songs were played, I was back in my element. The time just flew by, and I got a good response to my offerings, giving me the hunger for more, more, MORE!

All I can say is roll on September!

Merciful Nuns - Radiation
Suspiria - Behind The Wheel
Global Citizen - Don't Make It Slow
Peter Murphy - Velocity Bird
Korn - Get Up! (feat. Skrillex)
Ministry - N.W.O.
Paradise Lost - Soul Courageous
Rammstein - Meil Teil

The (inevitable) Coven Reunion

Well, its currently been 8 months since I last touched my DJ equipment, and the strain is starting to get to me!!

The plan was to have a break from hosting after near-on 10 years, and to possibly play a few other goth clubs around the country, but alas, upon the closure of The Coven in September 2011, there actually wasn't really any other clubs available to play!!

So the more time that passed, the more I lost interest in the whole scene, and indeed the music, whilst I settled down into my new life. What little was happening in my hometown, really didn't appeal anymore, and nothing of any magnitude really managed to fill the hole that The Coven left.

But a, so after fter a few moths, I started to gain a better insight into my personal tastes, adding various new genres and tastes and now feel ready to hit the dark decks once more.

So after a few meetings, I've managed to get one more night at The Hat Factory, to celebrate all things dark, and to play the best of the alternative music scene one more time.....plus with very special guests 'Global Citizen' (onstage 10.30pm)

So I bid you old and new willing sinners welcome once more into the shadows we go....

Hellfyre - Friday 12th August 2011

I must admit to being a tad disappointed at the level of support for the night, bearing in mind that The Coven wasn't on, but what with Bedford being more of a 'rock town' and with it clashing with Bloodfest, plus August always seeming to be quiet, the night eventually kicked in and another great time was had by all at Hellfyre.

So thanks kindly to Chris & Kate for the invitation to play again. Its great to be able to stretch one's DJ wings and play something a tad different from time to time.

Guess I'll be back behind my own dark decks in September, which will be the official last night of The Coven, so make sure you support that if you can.

DJ Nephilimbabe 12am - 1am

Yasmin's 30th Birthday Kerfuffle 30.7.2011

I don't usually play birthday events, but this time was different.

Basically I was given the challenge of playing a collection of a friends favourite songs I'm not familar with, but I love to hear new music/styles at any time and greatfully accepted. I also had to intertwine the occasional Mowtown song as well! Not easy considering the many different styles I was faced with.

Usually, I'm given some artistic license, but after doing my homework and finding so many good songs, I found little time to slip in any of my own ideas throughout the night! Regardless, the birthday girl seemed more than happy, although I'm sure the copious amount of red wine consumed somwehat helped, and it certainlt makes a pleasant change from playing goth and industrial all night!

Updates

Well, as most of you know that The Coven is currently on hiatus, which leaves me free for a couple of months to take it easy. But let's face it, both CovenAlex and I have been enteraining you on the second Saturday of the month for the last nine years, so its about time we took a break!

But in the meantime, and for those that can't wait until the next Coven, I've been kindly invited back in August to play Bedfords alternative night - "Hellfyre".

It would be great to see a good number of 'willing sinners' coming out ot support the night. Hope to see you all then.
